Overview
  • Uttarakhand, or the ‘Land of the Gods’ of north India, is no doubt a divine abode that blesses its people with untamed beauty and piousness. Among them lie some of the most sacred and awe-inspiring temples and beautiful terrains that extend a call to pilgrims, hikers, and explorers in equal measure. Uttarakhand, also known as the land of Gods and Tos, is blessed with jewels like Kedarnath, Chopta, Tungnath, and Rishikesh, which offer spiritual, adventurous, and breathtaking experiences. On this photographic tour, you will undertake the spiritual pilgrimage of visiting the Kedarnath temple, the beautiful valley of Chopta, the divine Tungnath temple, and the colorful town of Rishikesh, making it a spiritually enlightening and fascinating experience.

  • Kedarnath Temple, the temple for Shree Lord Shiva, is one of the prime Char Dhams and Panch Kedar in Uttarakhand state, India. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, considered most sacred among the twelve holy abodes for the pilgrims. Situated in Uttar Pradesh, the temple lies at an altitude of 3584 meters above sea level, along the banks of the Mandakini River, and, as such, it is enveloped by high, snow-capped mountains, which makes the atmosphere rather transcendental.

  • The prehistoric past of Kedarnath is linked with the name ‘Kedar Khand', which has always been an abode for meditators and people in search of solace and ultimate peace in this solitary world. The history of the temple has a lot of legends associated with it, but the most famous story that has been documented is about Pandavas coming here to pray to Lord Shiva for redemption after the Mahabharata war. The temple's base structure is not just a centuries-old architectural gem but a wonder that is constructed out of huge stone slabs that have withstood the tests of time and the vagaries of nature for thousands of years.
  • Not only the destination itself, but also the path leading up to Kedarnath, can be considered the most fulfilling. This trek begins at Gaurikund, which has deep religious and mythological relevance as the place where Lord Shiva openly declared love to Parvati. The trek is actually 16 kilometers long, through non-temperate highlands, steep valleys, dense foliage, and picturesque beauty. The elevation gradually increases, and although the views are a tad bit mundane up to a certain point, getting to Kedarnath surpasses all predicted views—a view of the Kedarnath Temple nestled between the majestic peaks of Kedarnath.
  • Tungnath is also known as Tung Nath, which translates to Lord of the Peaks, and this temple is not only the highest temple in the world dedicated to Shiva but also one of the major Panch Kedar temples. Some popular myths also talk about giving credit to the Pandavas who constructed this temple in order to get the god Shiva’s blessings. There is folklore that after the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas were condemned to feel guilty for killing their brothers and family members and wanted to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva’s abode, of which Tungnath is the first temple. The temple is a masterpiece in its architecture, built in the north Indian style of stone construction with carved rustic beauty. An aesthetic atmosphere prevails in the temple. The place, being religious, blessed with spiritual powers, and located in the interesting terrain of Chandranath Parvat, is a pilgrimage site for the faithful and an interesting trekking site for travelers.
